- Here is a short list of the parks and open spaces within a very short distance of our front door.
- Mendota County Park. 22 acres. Heres what Dane County Parks says.... The park has a 30-unit campground and a 5-unit boat campground with reservable sites. Facilities include electrical sites, bathroom and shower facilities. Mendota Park also offers two shelter facilities, unsupervised swimming area with an accessible swimming ramp, tennis and basketball courts, softball field, play equipment and a shallow launch for small boats and canoes.
- Orchid Heights Park. 14 acres. City of Middleton. A 5 minute bike ride or a short walk from Woodcreek. Very nice open space with soccer, baseball fields tennis courts and a lovely picnic shelter.
- Lakeview Community Park. 80 acres. City of Middleton. West side of Allen Blvd, Just South of Century Av. A 22 acre spring fed pond with a great walking trail as well as conservancy areas and open spaces for picnics, sports and all kinds of recreation. Opening in the summer of 2008, Middleton's cool new 'spray pool' will open at at Lakeview Park.
- Marshall Park. 54 acres with lake access. Madison city park. A great spot just east of Allen Blvd. Swimming, picnicing and larger boat access.
- Governor Nelson State Park. From the DNR site... On 10,000-acre Lake Mendota, recreation and nature mingle within sight of the state Capitol. Boating, fishing, picnicking and swimming are favorite activities. Restored prairie and savanna, effigy mounds, boat launch, swimming area, pet swimming area, hiking and ski trails. - Prairie restoration. This is the work of Holy Wiscom Monestary's (formerly St. Benedict Centers) wonderful project along County M. Now about 95 acres restored and more done every year. Check out Holy Wiscom Monestarys environmental stewardship programs, right in our back yard
