  • This towboat, The Penny Eckstein, is approaching the Number 12 lock and dam at beautiful Bellevue, Iowa.

  • This is what the Iowa DNR says about dams... Damming the Mississippi raised water levels, so many chutes between islands, and even islands themselves, were inundated. It also changed the habitat structure from a continuous, flowing body of water to a series of “lake-like” pools, stretch of river between two navigation dams .
